Club Brugge v Aston Villa: Champions League predictions, tips and bet builder as underdogs seek repeat

Hans Vanaken scores for Club Brugge against Aston Villa in the Champions League

We've identified a trio of tasty tips for Tuesday evening's Champions League Round of 16 clash between Club Brugge and Aston Villa.

Villa are looking to set the record straight after falling to a 1-0 defeat the last time they met Brugge, but the hosts have other ideas.

The darkhorse of the competition made light work of Europa League winners Atlanta in the previous round, so Unai Emery's side must be on their guard.

This bet builder was priced at 12/1 at the time of writing.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

Club Brugge v Aston Villa betting preview

The hosts have been cast into the role of underdog again on Tuesday, which is hardly surprising as they prepare to face one of the Premier League’s better sides.

On the other hand, Villa haven’t been at their best on the road, and this feels a bit like Premier League tax in action as Emery’s side are criminally underpriced.

The Belgians have beaten them once already this season and even without the aid of Martinez and Mings would have claimed a credible 0-0 draw.

A home win against Sporting Lisbon, a 0-0 draw with Juventus and a two-legged demolition job of Europa League champions Atalanta suggest they’re a match for anyone on home soil.

We’ll kick off Tuesday’s bet builder by backing them to win the first leg.

Referee Joao Pinheiro is averaging five cards per match this season and has become card happy on more than one ocassion.

The first meeting between these sides was a pretty fiery affair, with the hosts incurring two yellow cards and Villa picking up four.

Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos, Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings saw yellow during the 1-0 defeat, but it’s Morgan Rogers who’s spent more time in the referee’s book than anyone.

With eight yellow cards in 27 appearances, he’s feeling the wrath of the referee at a rate of almost one in three.

He’s maintained that ratio in the Champions League and with a particularly combative midfield battle in store, the tough tackler is a candidate for a card.
