The first ever clash between English and American opposition in Club World Cup history sees Chelsea and Los Angeles FC go head-to-head in Atlanta this Monday night (2000 BST).
Fresh from their Europa Conference League victory, Chelsea head to the United States looking to add another trophy to their cabinet.
The Blues are not regarded as one of the tournament favourites, but they are expected to dominate their group which includes Flamengo, Esperance Tunis and Monday’s opponents LAFC.
Enzo Maresca’s men enjoyed a strong season, adding a fourth-placed Premier League finish to their continental success. What’s more, they did all that fielding the youngest average age team in the competition’s history.
With a young team at their disposal and success beginning to trickle in, things are finally beginning to look up for a club which was in dire straits during the early days of Todd Boehly’s reign.
While Chelsea are building on youth, it is fair to say that Los Angeles FC are putting their faith in experience.
The likes of Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud have accomplished great things in football, though many would argue that their best days are already behind them.
Nevertheless, there is a feeling of excitement as LAFC make their Club World Cup debut – a competition they qualified for thanks to a play-off win over Club America.
