Chelsea v Copenhagen: Predictions, tips and bet builder as Blues look to show killer instinct

Marc Cucurella of Chelsea

Chelsea’s pursuit of their first trophy in three years continues on Thursday night when the Blues host Copenhagen in the second leg of their last-16 Europa Conference League tie (2000 GMT).

Enzo Maresca’s side take a 2-1 lead to Stamford Bridge as they look to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Realistically speaking, anything short of a comfortable run to the trophy would be regarded as a major disappointment for Chelsea. No disrespect to the other clubs, but none come anywhere close to the level of resources, financial power and quality on the field at Stamford Bridge.

Copenhagen are arguably one of three tough-ish draws that Chelsea could’ve landed yet despite fielding a much-changed side last week, the Blues still managed to secure a win.

Maresca’s men are in good form having won three games in a row. They’ve also got a solid home record, winning eight of their last 10 at the Bridge.

Here, we take a closer look at Thursday’s match and pick out some of the best bets along the way.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

Chelsea to win

While the Conference League offers Chelsea a solid opportunity to lift a trophy, their main priority remains the Premier League.

Finishing in the top four is by far the primary ambition for the Blues, meaning they might decide to rest players ahead of this weekend’s huge London derby with Arsenal.

Even with a semi-strong side, Chelsea will be looking to get the job done against Copenhagen… and do so comfortably.

The gulf in quality between both squads is significant, and that’s before you start considering recent form.

Speaking of which, Copenhagen are winless in three games and have since lost their league leader status in Denmark.

Both teams to score

While we are backing Chelsea to win on the night, we still believe Copenhagen can get on the scoresheet.

The Danish side scored late on in the first leg to set up a tasty rematch in London. They’ve also scored in six of their seven matches since returning from the winter break.

Under 8.5 corners

There was only one corner in the first leg and we’re not expecting much to change on that front.

Three of Chelsea’s last four matches have produced under 8.5 corners and considering neither team is likely to completely dominate proceedings, that number is expected to remain low.

Marc Cucurella to score or assist

Marc Cucurella has picked up three goal contributions from his last three matches and is looking like a threat ahead of Thursday’s encounter.

The Spaniard has eight goal contributions for the season, including an assist against Copenhagen last week.

We expect the 26-year-old to continue making an impact in the goal scoring department.
