Cole Palmer of Chelsea warms up during a Premier League match

Champions League qualification is on the line for Chelsea when they host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge this Friday night (2015 BTS).

Chelsea were starting to build some serious end-of-season momentum having gone on a five-match winning run across all competitions.

The Blues were seemingly heading for a top five finish and Champions League qualification… that was until last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Newcastle.

Enzo Maresca’s men enter this latest Premier League matchday still in the top five, but only by the skin of their teeth.

Chelsea are level on points with sixth-placed Aston Villa and only one point better off than seventh-placed Nottingham Forest. With that in mind, Maresca and his men simply cannot afford anymore slipups.

Luckily for the London outfit, Friday’s fixture comes against a preoccupied Manchester United side.

The Red Devils have one match to save their season, which comes on May 21 against Tottenham in the Europa League final.

Winning the trophy would secure qualification for the Champions League and would go a long way in making up for their atrocious Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils have suffered a record 17 defeats in the league this season, nine of which have come at Old Trafford.

United last faced Chelsea back in November as the two clubs played out a 1-1 draw. However, with the Red Devils prioritising their big European final, the Blues will certainly fancy their chances on Friday night.

Chelsea have only suffered one defeat from their last 13 games at Stamford Bridge. What’s more, United have won at the ground since 2020.

Man United may be in the midst of a seven-match winless run in the Premier League. However, with the big European final on the horizon, they won’t care one bit.

Whether it’s seven games without a win or eight – nobody will remember in years to come. Winning a European title, on the other hand, is a totally different matter.

With the Red Devils focused on Bilbao, don’t expect the visitors to take too many risks. Bearing that in mind, Chelsea are the ones to back in this fixture.

While we are siding with the Blues, we are not expecting a particularly high-scoring affair. Chelsea have only scored once across their last two matches, while seven of their last nine encounters with United have seen under 3.5 goals.

We’re backing that trend to continue and are sticking the under 3.5 goals bet into our acca.

In terms of specific player bets, we like the look of Cole Palmer getting one or more shots on target.

No player in the Premier League has attempted as many shots as Palmer, and with United expected to field a weaker team, the England international will be looking to probe their defence.

With that in mind, we’re also backing Chelsea to have five or more shots on target during Friday’s encounter.
