Brighton v Chelsea: Predictions, tips and bet builder as Blues look to hand Seagulls latest spanking

Chelsea's Cole Palmer

Saturday’s main event in the FA Cup sees Brighton welcome Chelsea to the Amex with a fifth-round spot hanging in the balance (2000 GMT).

Chelsea are on the mend and are once again competing alongside the big whales of English football.

While the Blues are still some distance off winning the Premier League, there’s no reason why they couldn’t challenge for the FA Cup.

Actually, there is one. Chelsea head to the Amex for their fourth-round game on the back of some awful away results.

Enzo Maresca’s men are on a four-match winless run on their travels which should make Brighton feel a little more at ease.

That, however, is far easier said than done considering Fabian Hurzeler’s side were spanked 7-0 by Nottingham Forest last time out.

Here, we take a closer look at Saturday’s encounter and pick out some of the best bets along the way.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

Chelsea to win – 5/4

Both teams to score – 4/9

Cole Palmer to score or assist – 7/5

Over 5.5 cards – 23/20

Chelsea to win

We’ve already touched ono Chelsea’s recent away record – it isn’t pretty. A goalless draw with Everton, a 2-0 loss at Ipswich, a 1-1 draw with Palace and a 3-1 spanking at Man City. There really isn’t much to shout about.

However, Chelsea’s away record still looks better than Brighton’s home record. The Seagulls have only picked up one win from nine games – against Man City of all teams.

Something’s just not clicking for Brighton at home at the moment, especially at home. With that in mind, Chelsea are the ones to back.

Both teams to score

Brighton were kept scoreless in their last two outings against Everton and Forest. We tried looking up the last time they went three games without scoring, but even AI couldn’t find it… useless.

The point we’re trying to make is that failing to score is not the norm for Brighton. In fact, scoring has often been their forte.

But the real reason why we’re backing both teams to score has more to do with Chelsea’s sloppy defence.

The Blues have conceded seven goals across their last four games. That should fill the Seagulls with confidence.

Cole Palmer to score or assist

Chelsea dangerman Cole Palmer has now gone three games without scoring or assisting. That is his joint-worst spell this season in terms of goal contributions.

That trend won’t last and we’re backing Palmer to rediscover his golden touch. A shaky Brighton defence will be kept on their toes in this one.

Over 5.5 cards

Both Chelsea and Brighton have picked up their fair share of cards in recent weeks. We’re backing that trend to continue as both teams battle for that coveted fifth-round spot.
