Club World Cup action returns to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami this Monday night as Boca Juniors take on Benfica (2300 BST).

As one of the most famous clubs outside of Europe, it may come as a surprise to learn that Boca Juniors are making just their second appearance at the tournament.

Their debut in the Club World Cup came in 2007 when they reached the final but came up short in the showpiece against AC Milan.

Boca return to the competition after qualifying as the second-best ranked eligible side from South America – largely thanks to their 2023 Copa Libertadores run which saw them lose 2-1 against Brazil’s Fluminense in the final.

The Argentinian outfit are now preparing to go head-to-head against a Benfica side which has endured a lot of heartbreak in recent weeks.

Bruno Lage and his men not only missed out on the Portuguese league title by two points but also lost in the Taca de Portugal cup final. Sporting Lisbon got the better of them in both competitions.

Benfica turn their attention to the Club World Cup and while the Portuguese outfit are not one of the favourites to go all the way, they will be expected to progress into the knockout stages at the very least.

Bayern Munich and Auckland City make up Group C, with the German outfit already romping to a 10-0 win over the New Zealand side at the weekend.

With that in mind, you can bet your bottom dollar that second place in the group will be battled over by Benfica and Boca Juniors.

The stakes are high in Monday’s game, but with both teams in poor form ahead of their trip to America, predicting the outcome is no easy task.

Boca have only picked up one win from their last four games, losing 1-0 to Independiente in their last outing at the end of May.

Benfica, meanwhile, are winless in their last three, though two of those games did come against champions and cup winners Sporting Lisbon.

Here, we take a closer look at the fixture and pick out some of the best bets along the way.

Boca Juniors v Benfica best bets

    Benfica to win – 13/20

    Over 2.5 goals – 19/20

Benfica arrive in America a little light when it comes to their defensive line, with Tomas Araujo and Alexander Bah on the sidelines for Monday’s game.

Nevertheless, the Eagles will fancy their chances as they prepare to take on an out-of-form Boca Juniors side.

Benfica’s last 11 matches have averaged just shy of four goals a game, and we are backing that high-scoring trend to continue by adding over 2.5 goals to our acca.

We are also throwing our weight behind Angel Di Maria. The Argentine is in the formative years of his career, though that hasn’t stopped him from producing 23 goal contributions this season.
