Aston Villa v Tottenham: Prediction, tips and free bet builder as Spurs crash out of FA Cup

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery

After another midweek bottom smacking, Tottenham Hotspur stagger their way to Aston Villa on Sunday for the late FA Cup kick-off (1735 GMT) and we’ve got an intriguing bet builder that could boost you

After the relative high of beating Brentford at the weekend and keeping a clean sheet, Tottenham were brought crashing back down to earth again on Thursday night at Anfield.
Liverpool put injury-hit Spurs to the sword and the North Londoners never really looked like getting into the game from the first half onwards. Five shots off target all game, three from outside the box, tells its own story.

Aston Villa also come into this FA Cup fourth round tie in some patchy form, they’ve only won once in the last five across all competitions and have only taken nine points in seven league games.

This feels like a distinctly ‘meh’ kind of match cup to watch on a Sunday afternoon, before Bullseye and Last of the summer wine…hang on, I went back in time there for a second, but we’ve still managed to find some interesting tips.

We take a closer look at Sunday’s tips and pick out some of the best bets which, if put together in a bet builder, will draw in odds of around 9/1.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

Aston Villa v Tottenham FA Cup tips

Aston Villa win - 7/10

Over 2.5 goals - 4/9

McGinn to be fouled two or more times - 4/7

Rashford goal or assist - 11/10

Rogers to commit two or more fouls - 5/6

Aston Villa win

Rather surprisingly, Tottenham are looking for a third consecutive win against Aston Villa.

Spurs beat Villa at home 4-1 earlier in the season, and won 4-0 up at Villa Park in March of the 2023/24 campaign.

That should put a bit of confidence in backing them, shouldn’t it? Well no.

Barring the Brentford win last weekend, Tottenham have been poor on the road this season. They’ve lost three of their past four domestic away games, and have only won four away in the league all season.

Then we have getting dragged into extra-time by non-league Tamworth in the third round of the FA Cup last month. Jeepers.

Villa are pretty handy at home having lost only once in the league, and that was to Arsenal in August.

So home win, Tottenham out of another cup and Ange Postecoglou will only have the Europa League safety net keeping him in a job.

Over 2.5 goals

Over 2.5 goals has landed in five of the last six meetings between the two sides, and it being a winner takes all cup game there should be enough goal-mouth action.

Neither side are very good at keeping a clean sheet; Tottenham have five in the Premier League and Aston Villa just three, so this seems like a safe bet to put on your card.

John McGinn to be fouled two or more times

John McGinn is a wily old fox, and there’s just something about him that makes opposition teams want to foul him.

He’s drawn 41 fouls in the Premier League this season already, three of those coming in the 2-0 defeat to Wolves last weekend - his first full match since December.

Before his January injury, he was fouled 19 times in seven games during December with over two fouls landing in every game.

In Villa and Tottenham's previous two encounters, McGinn was fouled seven times.

Morgan Rogers to commit two or more fouls

This has been a favourite tip of ours for most of the season, as Morgan Rogers is always never far away from the whistle due to his style of play.

He’s top of the Villa fouls chart with 38 in 23 Premier League games, and averages 1.79 fouls per game.

The last time he didn’t pick up at least two fouls in a Premier League game was back in December, six matches ago.

Rashford goal or assist

We wouldn’t be upset if you ignored this betting suggestion, as it’s not one based on solid stats research. We are putting in the hands of the Football Gods and their love of a good storyline.

Rashford moved to Villa on loan on deadline day, after a messy trial separation with his childhood sweetheart Manchester United.

Villa fans were not impressed, especially as he turned up to his new club’s photoshoot looking like he’d been dragged through a hedge.

He’s not cup-tied, so is in line to make his Villa debut and wouldn’t it be just typical if he provided the cross for Ollie Watkins to tap home the winner or one bobbled off his shin from a corner.

Alright, here’s a stat, Rashford has four goal involvements in his last seven games against Tottenham - three goals and one assist.

Most of the best betting sites have published odds on who might replace Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham's manager. At the time of writing, Andoni Iraola and Thomas Frank are joint favorites at 4/1, with former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino also in contention at 5/1.
