English side branded 'crazy' for attempting to complete Luis Suarez move
Aston Villa have already signed Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara, and Diego Carlos this summer.
Former Leeds United player Noel Whelan has questioned Villa's motive in signing Luis Suarez.
The forward is a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid in the summer and it is believed Steven Gerrard is keen on signing his former team-mate.
According to Stiliyan Petrov, Suarez would be a huge success at Villa Park but Whelan isn't convinced by the 35-year-old.
"I wouldn't like to see that deal go through at all," he told Football Insider.
"I don't understand. They've got a really good academy at Aston Villa with some really good prospects.
"I'd much prefer to see those youngsters, like a Cameron Archer. Rather than a 35-year-old who is past the peak of his powers.
"It just doesn't make sense, for me. Neither would the money you'd have to give Suarez, it'd still be crazy money.
"If you want a new striker, go out and get someone who is 24 or 25 - and has a lot left to give.
"I really don't think he'd be able to handle the Premier League."
Suarez made his name at Liverpool, notching up an impressive 82 goals from 133 appearances before moving to Barcelona.
It was during his time at the Spanish giants that Suarez went up a level alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar.
In a six-season spell, Suarez scored 198 goals from 283 games and won 13 trophies, including four La Liga titles and the Champions League.
The Uruguayan moved to Atletico Madrid in 2020/21 and won the league in his debut season. Suarez was pivotal to Diego Simeone as he netted 21 times.
In his second season, Suarez didn't play as many minutes and made just 20 starts throughout the whole of 2021/22 although he still managed 11 goals.
