Arsenal v PSV: Prediction, tips and bet builder as Arsenal stunned by wounded visitors

Ismael Saibari of PSV

We're backing PSV Eindhoven to spring a monumental surprise by beating Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The remainder of Arsenal’s season will be a weird state of limbo where fans go through the motions in anticipation of the next round of Champions League fixtures.

Luckily, the Gunners, who are out of the title race, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup, have already put poor PSV to the sword.

Despite producing an emphatic 7-1 win in Eindhoven to book their spot in the quarterfinals, getting too excited about their prospects deeper in the competition is hard.

Wednesday’s meeting with PSV feels like a pointless exercise, but the circumstances may present an opportunity to catch the bookies cold.

Our two selection bet builder for Wednesday’s action is priced at 11/1 at the time of writing.

Both teams to score

PSV to win

It’s not a surprise to see the hosts priced as thinly as 3/8 to add to their six-goal advantage, yet there’s no justification to back them in the circumstances.

Not only is there no motivation to go out and win this game, Arteta may feel it’s best to pull a number of his star players out of the limelight after Sunday’s draw at Old Trafford.

The next six weeks of Arsenal’s Premier League season consists of four meetings with fellow London clubs, all while pretending they’re still in a title race.

Their Super Sunday showdown with Chelsea is of much more importance than battering PSV again, so there could be as many as 10 changes, including a rare start for the lesser-spotted Raheem Sterling.

PSV may also opt to rotate ahead of a trip to Waaljwik, but it’s fair to say their depth is better than Arsenal’s. The introduction of Tyrell Malacia, Sergino Dest, Johan Bakayoko, Rick Karsdorp, and Couhain Driouech, among others, doesn’t feel like much of a downgrade.

There may even be a start for ex-Arsenal man Lucas Perez in attack.

The motivation for PSV is salvaging a bit of professional pride by reducing the deficit, so it’s safe to assume some of their fringe players will be keen to seize this opportunity.

Regardless of who plays, it’s a safe bet that Arsenal find the net. Liverpool scored twice when fielding an extremely weakened team against the Dutch outfit, in a game they went on to lose 3-2.

We’ve taken enough of a risk by backing PSV, so combine that with both teams to score and call it a bet builder.
