Arsenal will be looking to avoid a complete season collapse when they welcome Newcastle to the Emirates this Sunday (1630 BST).

There’s no question that this season marks one of the saddest season endings for the Gunners in recent years.

While Mikel Arteta’s men ran Man City close for the last couple of years, this time Arsenal are in a race for second.

Having ditched the league to focus on their ultimately failed Champions League bid, the Gunners have only picked up one Premier League win from six.

Their slump in domestic form has allowed the chasing pack to close the gap – none more so than Newcastle United who could go second with a win on Sunday.

If a failed title bid and a failed European campaign weren’t bad enough, dropping down to third spot would underline just how badly the Gunners have performed in these final weeks of the season.

While the pressure is piling on Arteta, Eddie Howe is loving life in the North East. A win at the Emirates will guarantee Newcastle’s return to the Champions League – potentially their second campaign in the Europea elite under Howe’s stewardship.

Only Liverpool have won more games than the Magpies in the Premier League this season, underlining just how much progress Newcastle have made in recent times.

Finishing the season in second would not only mark Newcastle’s best finish since 1996/97, but it would also send a serious statement of intent to the rest of the league.

The Magpies will certainly fancy their chances at the Emirates, having already beaten Arsenal in the league this season. Howe’s men are looking to complete a league season double over the Gunners – something the club haven’t done since the 1994/95 season.

In another potential first, Newcastle could become the first team to beat Arsenal four times in one season. This comes following their two cup victories over the Gunners at the start of the year.

Arsenal’s 2-2 draw away at Anfield last weekend took their winless run to five straight games across all competitions, with three of those matches ending in defeats.

While the Gunners are flapping, the Magpies are soaring having picked up eight wins from their last 10 matches across all comps.

Newcastle beat Chelsea 2-0 last weekend and they will now be looking to see off another team from London – this time in the capital.

Howe’s men have already tasted victory at the Emirates this season, winning the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final back in January.

With Newcastle in the ascendancy, we’re backing the visitors to prevail in the outright market at around the 13/5 mark.

Both teams to score is our second addition to the acca. This bet has landed in four of Arsenal’s last five matches and three of Newcastle’s last four away from home.

With the Magpies not afraid to go on the front foot, we’re backing Arsenal goalie David Raya to have his hands full. The Spaniard is priced at 4/11 to make two or more saves on Sunday.

Lastly, we’re backing Alexnader Isak to get on the scoresheet. The Swede has already scored 23 goals in the Premier League this season – two more than the previous campaign.

Three of his goals have come in the previous five outings, and we’re backing his positive goalscoring trend to continue at the Emirates.
