Arsenal eye Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig to bolster attack

Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko this summer, positioning themselves ahead of several top European clubs.

Sesko has spent his entire professional career within the Red Bull football ecosystem, progressing from Red Bull Salzburg and FC Liefering before joining RB Leipzig last summer.

Initially struggling for starts due to the impressive form of Belgian striker Lois Openda, Sesko has fought his way into the starting line-up, earning 13 starts in his last 17 Bundesliga appearances.

His recent performances have been particularly noteworthy, as the 20-year-old has found the back of the net in each of Leipzig's last six matches, including a crucial equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen on Saturday. With 17 goals in 41 competitive appearances this season, Sesko's form has piqued the interest of several high-profile clubs.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are at the forefront of this pursuit, outpacing rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and AC Milan. Sesko, who previously had a £43 million release clause in his Leipzig contract, may see that figure rise to £64 million due to his recent surge in form.

Arsenal are actively seeking to strengthen their forward line ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Manager Mikel Arteta has had to rely on Kai Havertz as the main centre-forward in light of Gabriel Jesus' recurring injury problems and inconsistent performances. Jesus has managed just four goals in 26 Premier League appearances this season, hindered by multiple fitness issues.

Apart from Sesko, Arsenal are also reportedly considering other attacking options, including Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. The club's determination to reinforce their attacking line highlights their ambition to compete at the highest level in the upcoming seasons.

As Arsenal coach Arteta aims to build a squad capable of challenging for top honours, securing a young and prolific striker like Sesko could be a pivotal move.
