Antoine Griezmann's quest for Atletico Madrid legend status

In a bid to etch his name into Atletico Madrid's history, Antoine Griezmann is on a mission to become a club legend.

The 32-year-old forward, a pivotal figure under coach Diego Simeone's reign since the onset of the 2023/24 season, has notched up an impressive 12 goals in both La Liga and the Champions League.

Acknowledging his tumultuous return from Barcelona, Griezmann has openly expressed his desire to regain the love and trust of Atletico's fervent fan base. With a club goal tally standing at 169, Griezmann is closing in on Luis Aragones' record of 173, aiming to leave an indelible mark on Atletico's rich history.

In an exclusive interview with MARCA, Griezmann outlined his aspirations, saying, "I'm motivated to be someone important at Atletico, to be a legend at this club. I know I have to earn it." Reflecting on his journey, he noted, "I feel that I have recovered the connection with the fans."

Despite facing challenges in winning back the supporters, Griezmann is determined to lead Atletico to glory this season. He emphasized his objectives, stating, "I have many goals for this year, but I want to win La Liga, I need it. I've never done it, and it would be nice. But it's a very long season, and you have to work, and see if you are lucky enough to win it."

Griezmann's quest for legend status aligns with Atletico's historical triumphs under Simeone. The two league titles secured during the coach's tenure came on either side of Griezmann's spells at Real Sociedad and Barcelona. As the seasoned forward strives to elevate Atletico to new heights, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing whether Griezmann can deliver on his ambitions and secure a lasting legacy at the club.
