Alejandro Grimaldo explains great season under Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso

Alejandro Grimaldo's journey with Bayer Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso's guidance has been nothing short of remarkable.

In an exclusive interview with Radio MARCA, the 28-year-old defender radiated joy as he reflected on his stellar season, stating, "I'm thrilled. It's been an incredible year, and I'm very happy to be experiencing it."

Grimaldo attributes Leverkusen's success to the strong bond within the team, emphasizing their resilience during tough times. "We know that even when things get tough, we'll overcome them," he said. "Maintaining our unbeaten streak is something beautiful for the club and for all of us."

Expressing his hunger for titles, Grimaldo emphasized the significance of winning the Bundesliga crown. "We want to keep winning and not losing, especially in the Bundesliga," he asserted.

"Winning the Europa League, winning the Cup... Winning the Bundesliga is historic, but winning a treble would be insane. I prefer titles."

Ahead of the Europa League semifinals against AS Roma, Grimaldo highlighted a shift in mentality within the team, indicating a strong desire to succeed. "The team, after what happened last year, is eager to face Roma," he explained. "We're full of confidence, and we're going there in the first leg to win."

Grimaldo credited Xabi Alonso for his pivotal role in his decision to join Leverkusen, praising the coach's understanding of the club's project and upcoming signings. "Xabi Alonso was crucial in my decision," Grimaldo acknowledged. "He explained the club's project to me, the signings that were coming, and that was important in making the decision."

Speaking about his versatile role in the team, Grimaldo highlighted Alonso's trust in his capabilities. "He knew what I could bring and in which areas of the game I could contribute beyond being a full-back," Grimaldo said. "He has given me the confidence and freedom to do so."

Looking ahead to his national team prospects, Grimaldo expressed gratitude towards Spain manager Luis De la Fuente for the opportunity and emphasized his adaptability. "Luis De la Fuente has given me the chance to join the national team," he remarked. "He knew I could adapt easily."

Despite his success abroad, Grimaldo expressed his desire to play in La Liga in the future, affirming, "To play in La Liga because it's my country."
