  • A List Pop Stars And Their Footballer Other Halves As Liverpool Man And Perrie Edwards Get Engaged

A-list pop stars and their footballer other halves as Liverpool man and Perrie Edwards get engaged

Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards has announced her engagement to Liverpool FC's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Here, we take a look at other pop-star and football star combinations.

Edwards and the Ox have been an item since the end of 2016 and have gone on to become one of the most famous celeb couples in the UK.

The couple have baby Axel, born in August 2021, and both have been absolutely killing it in their respective jobs.
Perrie is part of one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time, while Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a Liverpool player since 2017 during which time they have won the EFL Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup and the two big ones…the Premier League and Champions League.

Here, Planet Sport looks at some other examples, and you can decide who is more famous, the footballer or the pop star?

Shakira and Gerard Pique

One of the biggest footballer and singer combinations in the world recently came to an end, as Spaniard Pique and Colombian Shakira decided to split after the Barcelona ace was allegedly caught cheating.

They met in the footballing world, as Shakira was filming the music video for her 2010 World Cup song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
Barcelona centre-back Pique is 10 years Shakira's junior, with the two sharing the same birthday.

They have two children, Milan and Sasha, and Forbes once listed the duo as one of the 'World's Most Powerful Couples".

Alexandra Burke and Darren Randolph

West Ham's second string goalkeeper Darren Randolph and pop star Alexandra Burke recently announced that they are expecting their first child this summer.
The pair took to Instagram in June 2021 to confirm that they were couple. Randolph used to date The Saturdays star Rochelle Wiseman before she married Marvin Humes in 2012.

Alexandra Burke and Jermain Defoe

It's not the first time Alexandra has been involved with a footballer. In 2012 she got into a relationship with then-Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe. It ended after lurid headlines accused the striker of twice being unfaithful to her, one of whom Defoe described as a Peter Kay lookalike.

"Alexandra will never date another footballer," a source told The Sun.

Alexandra Burke and Angus MacDonald

To be fair, Alexandra made it seven years before she embarked on another relationship with a footballer. And this one was much less high profile. He played for Hull City.
Won over by the glamour of visits to see the tennis at Wimbledon, rather than the delights of the KCOM, Burke dated the defender for 15 months, even helping him through a cancer battle.
The pair broke up in October 2020 and, according to a source, Burke swore off dating any more footballers…

Andre Gray and Leigh-Anne Pinnock

There must be something about Little Mix members and an attraction to professional footballers.

Singer Leigh-Anne met the on-loan QPR striker Andre Gray in mid 2016 when both were on holiday in Marbella.

Fast forward five years of being together and Leigh-Anne had given birth to twins and the couple look as happy as ever.
Gray hasn't quite reached the same heights as his singer fiance, after featuring for Burnley, Watford and QPR in recent seasons but he has represented Jamaica on 12 occasions since 2021.

Sebastian Lletget and Becky G

Now time for one from across the pond. US international Sebastian Lletget and Mexican pop star Becky G have been together since June 2016 and she certainly wins when it comes to fame.
The 24-year-old has over 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has toured alongside the likes of Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, J Balvin and Fifth Harmony and has recorded collaborations with Pitbull, ZAYN and Daddy Yankee just to name a few.

Lletget, who has been capped 33 times for the US men's national team, has played for West Ham, LA Galaxy and is currently at New England Revolution.

Mark Bright and Michelle Gayle

In the 1990s former EastEnders actress Michelle Gayle had seven top 40 singles in the UK and around the time of the last of those songs charting, she and footballer Mark Bright became an item.

Bright, who is now a sports correspondent, was a striker who spent time at Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday. He won the Player of the Year award at Palace in 1990 where he formed a prolific partnership with Ian Wright.

Bright and Gayle married in Las Vegas in 1996 and their son, Isaiah, was born in April 2000. However, the couple divorced just over 10 years later.

Gayle later went on to write Pride and Premiership, a book urging young girls not to pursue life as a WAG. It is described by one reviewer as "one of the worst books I have ever read" while another claims "there is absolutely no point whatsoever in the book."

Ashley Cole and Cheryl Tweedy

Former Arsenal and Chelsea player Ashley Cole is one of England's greatest ever left-backs, having represented the Three Lions 107 times.

Cheryl, meanwhile rose to prominence through TV show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, winning a place in girl band Girls Aloud.

As a group, they released five albums and had four number one singles, making them one of the biggest girl groups in the UK in recent times.
The couple got together in September 2004, did the whole celebrity thing and signed a £1million magazine deal for their wedding photos in 2006. They were divorced in May 2010 after Ashley admitted being unfaithful with a number of women.

Ruben Dias and April Ivy

Ruben Dias dated Mariana Goncalves, better known as April Ivy, between 2018 and 2021.
The 22-year-old Portuguese singer-songwriter has released one album, but has not reached the heights of 6ft 1in Man City defender Dias.
The former Benfica player signed for English giants Manchester City in 2020 and has since gone on to become one of the best defenders in the world.
While at City, Dias has won the EFL Cup and Premier League and will be confident of adding a second Premier League title and Champions League to his collection at the end of 2021/22.

David Beckham and Victoria Beckham

They have some way to go to match the Beckham brand, however.

David Beckham, by far the most high profile of United's Class of '92, embarked on a relationship with Victoria Adams in early 1997 after the pair met at a charity football match.

Victoria was one fifth of the best-selling female group of all time, the Spice Girls, and has since gone on to make a name for herself in the world of fashion.
David, meanwhile, had just established himself in the Manchester United team and would go on to play for Real Madrid, Inter Milan and LA Galaxy, while making 115 appearances for England.
Posh and Becks married in July 1999 in a wedding which took decadence to a different level.
Taking place in a castle on the outskirts of Dublin it featured his and hers thrones, a Robin Hood theme and David in a purple suit and shoes. Thankfully, he decided not to wear the matching top hat.
The couple remain together and have four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
