With modest opposition in the shape of Hungary, Andorra, and Poland next up, England boss Gareth Southgate has the perfect opportunity to blood some fresh meat in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

A Euro 2020 final appearance would suggest all is well in the England ranks. However, despite the progress under Southgate he won't want the group to stagnate if they are to go one better in Qatar.

A sprinkling of new talent will certainly keep the established internationals on their toes, and Planet Sport has picked out five players whose names should be in the squad when the announcement is made on Thursday.

Matty Cash

England are already well stocked on both sides of the defence thanks to the likes of Luke Shaw, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker.

However, Aston Villa's Matty Cash deserves a chance to challenge the status quo.

The 24-year-old would fit straight into Southgate's system, having garnered plenty of experience playing as a wing-back at Nottingham Forest as well as the Villains.

Last season, he was a member of the third best defence in the league, attaining 13 clean sheets from the 28 matches he played.

Having selected five full-backs for the Euros, it is a position in which Southgate likes to have options. Plus, Kieran Tripper will be 32 when the next World Cup comes around, while Kyle Walker will be 33.

Cash offers defensive solidarity and attacking impetus, and while he can't pass like Jack Grealish, he could pass for him.

Joe Willock

After his outstanding performances for Newcastle United on loan last season, an England call-up cannot be too far away for Willock.

The 22-year-old scored eight times in 14 games for Newcastle. He also matched Alan Shearer's consecutive goalscoring record of seven, helping his loan side climb the table to 12th.

Now a permanent Magpie, the midfielder is lacking match sharpness. However, a stint training with the England squad and a 15-minute cameo against Andorra is not beyond him.

And, having been in and around the England camp from a young age, at least he knows his way around St George's Park.

Emile Smith Rowe

One of England's hottest talents, Southgate will almost certainly be keeping tabs on Arsenal's No. 10.

Smith Rowe had a breakout 2020/21 campaign, making a name for himself in the Europa League and featuring in 20 Premier League games for the Gunners, scoring twice and assisting four times.

The midfielder's quick feet, vision, and creativity will go hand in hand with Southgate's philosophy and he will prove an ideal foil for Arsenal team-mate Bukayo Saka.

Last season, after Smith Rowe started against Chelsea on Boxing Day, Arsenal were third in the form table. Saka may have caught the eye but Smith Rowe's influence translated to points. 

Patrick Bamford

Twenty-seven-year-old Bamford is the oldest uncapped English player on our list. However, after 17 Premier League goals last season many considered him unfortunate not to make it to Euro 2020.

With Harry Kane's Manchester City transfer saga having deprived him of game-time, Bamford is in an ideal position to take over the role of England's attacking spearhead.

Kalvin Phillips showed in the summer what can happen when you throw a relatively unheralded Leeds United player into the England side. We think Bamford can repeat the trick.

Aaron Ramsdale

With Arsenal yet to win a league game this season, Ramsdale could be on his way to an incredible relegation hat-trick having previously suffered the drop with Bournemouth and Sheffield United.

Unused in the Euros, Ramsdale will have to go some to shift Jordan Pickford but the Everton keeper is not without his aberrations, while the back-up keeper spot is very much up for grabs.
