Judd Trump reaches third round of German Masters as Mark Williams crashes out

Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Ali Carter all booked their places in the third round of the German Masters, while Mark Williams lost to He Guoqiang.

Trump, who whitewashed Belgium’s Lukas Kleckers 5-0 in the opening round, clicked into top gear in the final two frames against Matthew Stevens and will now face Matthew Selt.

After Stevens had levelled the scores at 3-3, world number two Trump produced back-to-back breaks of 114 and 96 to seal his victory.

Three-time world champion Mark Williams bowed out after losing 5-1 to China’s He Guoqiang, whose win included two century breaks.

Zak Surety made scores of 136 and 144 in his 5-2 win over Swiss Alexander Ursenbacher and there were also wins in the afternoon session for Andrew Pagett, Ryan Day, Xu Si and Robert Milkins.

In the morning session, Neil Robertson maintained his return to form by hammering namesake Jimmy Robertson 5-1 with scores of 87, 78, 135 and 86 to reach the third round.

Two-time German Masters champion Ali Carter cruised to a 5-1 win against China’s Peng Yisong and John Higgins received a walkover against Martin Gould.

Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh made a deciding-frame break of 74 to oust Zhang Anda 5-4 and Chinese trio Pang Junxu, Si Jiahui and Zhou Yuelong all progressed to the third round in convincing fashion.

Pang and Si both won 5-1 against Haydon Pinhey and Mark Joyce respectively, while Zhou Yuelong thrashed fellow Chinese Tian Pengfei 5-0.

In the evening session, Mark Allen opened with a 54 break in a 5-2 win over Louis Heathcote.

Alfie Davies was awarded a 5-1 win after Marco Fu withdrew while trailing 3-1, and Joe Perry beat Xing Zihao by the same final scoreline.

Julien Leclercq beat Ken Doherty 5-3 and Jordan Brown won 5-2 against David Gilbert.
