Ali Carter beats Judd Trump to secure Players Championship semi-final spot

Top seed Judd Trump was beaten 6-4 by Ali Carter in the first quarter-final of the Players Championship in Telford.

Both players started well, but Carter took the first frame after some excellent safety play, but Trump bounced back with breaks of 61 and 85 to give him a 2-1 lead.

Carter then bounced back to take a 3-2 lead, before Trump produced his 68th century break of the campaign to level things at 3-3.

A potted white from Trump allowed Carter the chance to go 4-3 up, before the Masters finalist opened up a two frame advantage as Trump made one mistake too many.

The number one seed then pulled a frame back to make it 5-4, but Carter secured an impressive win in the 10th frame after a 12-minute chase for the yellow resulted in Trump blinking first, which allowed Carter an opportunity to claim a semi-final spot and he grabbed it with both hands.

Carter will now face either Northern Ireland's Mark Allen or Welsh Open champion Gary Wilson in the semi-finals.
