Wigan Warriors boss makes Brad O’Neill and Jai Field admission after successive Castleford victory
Wigan coach Matt Peet was pleased with how focused his side were in their 36-14 victory over Castleford as they made it back-to-back wins over the Tigers.
The Warriors hammered the Tigers 60-6 in the Challenge Cup last weekend and there was a risk that one-sided encounter could have led Wigan to taking the Tigers lightly in this Super League clash.
But Castleford refused to make it easy for their high-flying hosts and Wigan only led by four points at the break before pulling away in the second half.
Peet said: “I was pleased that we were made to work harder and still get the job done. I thought Castleford right from the off brought a level of intent, effort and energy.
“We had to overcome that. They score a try against the run of play and it makes it more of a challenge, but I thought we built into the game and got the job done.”
Peet made a few changes ahead of the game with Brad O’Neill and Jai Field both sitting out.
The Wigan said: “Brad O’Neill has been playing outstandingly well for us, but we do have another very good hooker and I just wanted to give Kruise (Leeming) more game time now he is fully recovered from injury.
“We want to protect Brad and keep him fresh. It’s a long season ahead and there is an accumulative minutes limitation there with his age. His is lower than others, so it’s a way of keeping him safe because we are going to need him.
“Jai (Field) has been nursing a bit of muscle tightness. He could play but we have taken the opportunity to just let him rest a little bit. He is coming towards the back of that now, I think he’s put it to bed in this little rest he has had.”
