Great Britain win team spring silver medal after Katy Marchant's return to international competition

Katy Marchant helped Great Britain to women’s team sprint silver at the European Championships as she returned to international competition for the first time since giving birth.

The Olympic bronze medallist said on the eve of the event in Switzerland she was launching "career 2.0" having become a mother and it started in fine fashion as Great Britain narrowly finished behind Germany.
Marchant, Lauren Bell and Sophie Capewell qualified with the third fastest time before Emma Finucane replaced Marchant to see off Belgium and set up the gold medal final clash.
The 30-year-old new mum returned for the final and, after a restart, they were eventually beaten into the silver medal place by a strong German team.
The men's sprint team also had to settle for silver after Ali Fielding, Jack Carlin and Joe Truman reached the final, where they were beaten by a dominant Netherlands team.
