What major F1 film and TV projects are currently in the pipeline?

Business is booming in Formula 1, and thanks to a continuously expanding audience, the series is becoming an ever-more popular subject for the world of TV and film.

Netflix's Drive to Survive will widely be the first to come to mind for many, but there are plenty more F1-related projects in the pipeline.

So, just to spike your excitement levels that bit further, Planet Sport has pooled together all of these upcoming works into one handy list, with some information on what you can expect for each.

Drive to Survive: Series Five

So we will start with Netflix's hit series Drive to Survive, with the fifth season, judging by the past release dates, set to hit our screens in the early months of 2023.

Drive to Survive offers a behind-the-scenes look at the world of Formula 1, beyond what the TV cameras show at a grands prix, so the Netflix crew often pick up many moments of drama.

Netflix were reportedly present for a team boss meeting in Canada where Mercedes' Toto Wolff was said to have clashed with his best frenemy Red Bull boss Christian Horner, with Ferrari's Mattia Binotto also said to have got involved.

So, roll on series five, because if all of this did go down, then Netflix shall reveal all.

Formula 1 movie involving Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton

Apple TV has won the rights for a currently untitled movie which is set to star Brad Pitt, while Lewis Hamilton is going to be a producer.

The plot is said to entail a driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger protege and take his last shot at glory on the track as his team-mate.

There is a reported budget of $140m for the film, the same value as Formula 1's cost cap for the 2022 season.

Lewis Hamilton-themed Formula 1 documentary

The Apple-Hamilton association does not end there, as Apple TV are also set to show a documentary which will focus on the seven-time World Champion.

Hamilton is set to co-produce the documentary, and while it is not yet clear what form it will take, the project is said to have full access to Hamilton and his team both at and away from the track.

Hulu F1 series starring Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo

It was recently revealed that Hulu is working on a scripted F1 series, where Ricciardo will serve as an executive producer.

While the exact content has not been revealed, the project will reportedly feature half-hour shows, with Ricciardo working alongside ABC Signature, Temple Hill and Lionsgate TV to create the series for Hulu, with the search now apparently on to bring writers onboard.

Enzo Ferrari biopic

It has been confirmed that a new film charting the life of Ferrari's founder Enzo Ferrari will hit our screens.

American multi award-winning actor Adam Driver is reportedly being lined-up to portray Enzo Ferrari in the film, with the likes of Penelope Cruz and Shailene Woodley joining the star-studded cast.

With the likes of the movie 'Rush' and the incredible 'Senna' documentary to live up to, we can't wait to see how this will stack up against some of the all-time classic F1 films.

We're going to have to be patient for a release date though, with the project only announced back in February 2022.
