Helmut Marko: Lewis Hamilton proved at Silverstone he still has the speed

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko praised Lewis Hamilton for a masterful performance after he ended a 945-day drought with victory at the British Grand Prix.

The race, held at Silverstone Circuit, saw Hamilton's Mercedes outpace all rivals, including defending world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko lauded Hamilton's performance as "masterful," emphasising his unmatched speed and strategic prowess throughout the race.

Hamilton's triumph wasn't without its challenges, as he navigated changing track conditions and fierce competition from Verstappen.

Verstappen, who initially struggled in damp conditions early in the race, mounted a remarkable comeback on a drier track.

The Dutch driver surged forward, overtaking McLaren's Lando Norris to secure second place, finishing 1.4 seconds behind Hamilton.

Marko suggested that with two laps more, Verstappen could have potentially clinched victory, highlighting the intensity of the battle between the two top drivers.

"You can only congratulate Hamilton," Marko told Sky Deutschland.

"He held up well on a dry track. You then see his strength in terms of tyre management.

"We could see that his tyres had already started to grain slightly.

"And we thought it would be OK, but that shows what a master he is, who can read a race and who challenges the tyres just right so that they don't collapse.

"Lewis Hamilton did a great job, and that just shows how much experience and speed he still has."
