Fernando Alonso embraces challenges amid Aston Martin's slow start
Fernando Alonso has dismissed any suggestion of frustration over Aston Martin's underwhelming start to the 2024 Formula 1 season.
The British team, which had an impressive launch to the 2023 campaign, have struggled to maintain their momentum in the 2024 season.
In the 2023 season, Alonso's remarkable performances earned him six podiums in the first eight races, marking a stellar beginning for Aston Martin.
However, as the 2023 season progressed, the team's form declined, and they failed to replicate that early success towards the end of last season including the current season.
Despite these challenges, Alonso has remained composed and optimistic.
"No, I will not call it frustration," Alonso stated when questioned about the team's current position. "I think it's the nature of the sport. At the end of the day, we are not happy with our position, that's for sure.
"But in December, only one guy will be happy. Probably the second guy will be more frustrated than me in Abu Dhabi, the third guy and the fourth and things like that. So that's the nature of the sport."
Alonso, who is known for his resilience, emphasised that Aston Martin are focused on future opportunities.
He acknowledged the current difficulties but expressed confidence in the team's long-term prospects. "But I'm enjoying the journey," Alonso said. "We want to be champions. We want to be competitive next year and also take the big opportunity in 2026.
"It's not time to be frustrated. It's time to enjoy the process of becoming a big team."
The Formula 1 season is currently on a summer break and will resume with the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. This race will be held on Sunday, August 25, at the 4.259-kilometre Circuit Zandvoort, covering 72 laps.
