Red Bull demand track limits solution after Sergio Perez's Q2 Qatar disappointment

In a dramatic turn of events at the Qatar Grand Prix, Red Bull's motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, has called for immediate action to address the contentious issue of track limits.
The frustration arose as Sergio Perez saw his impressive lap-time in Q2 erased due to a track limits violation at Turn 5, relegating him to the 13th position on the grid while teammate Max Verstappen secured pole position.
Track limits have long been a point of contention in the world of Formula 1, and Marko emphasized the need for a resolution, warning that delayed results could become the norm.
Marko expressed his concern, stating in an interview with Sky Germany, "You saw how many drivers exceeded the track limits, that's because of the white lines. Something has to be done to solve it."
He further questioned the practicality of managing track limits during the race, stating, "Otherwise, you will only have the results on Monday morning."
Despite the setback, Marko highlighted the strategic advantage that Perez had gained by conserving an extra set of tires. He noted, "Checo has the advantage of having two sets of tires left: he has to look at it positively."
Max Verstappen, who clinched pole position, was the focal point of Red Bull's performance. Marko praised the "important changes" made to Verstappen's car, which provided him with a "clear advantage." Verstappen's impressive time in his first Q3 run was enough to secure the coveted top spot, rendering his second run unnecessary.
The Qatar Grand Prix, held at the Losail International Circuit just outside Lusail, north of Doha, marks the 17th thrilling race of the Formula 1 season. As drivers continue to push their limits in pursuit of victory, the debate over track limits has taken centre stage, leaving teams and fans alike eager for a solution that ensures fairness and clarity in race results.
