Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is bracing for a fierce battle with Ferrari as they strive to secure second place in the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Currently, Mercedes cling to second place, a mere four points ahead of the charging Ferrari team. Charles Leclerc's dramatic last-lap manoeuvre at the Las Vegas Grand Prix has heightened Ferrari's chances of overtaking Mercedes in the standings. Last season, it was Ferrari who secured the runner-up position, relegating Mercedes to third place.

Wolff emphasizes Mercedes' unwavering focus on securing a better position than the previous year, even as Red Bull continue to dominate the title race. "Ferrari have closed the gap in the Constructors' to just four points, and we're ready to give it our all in Abu Dhabi to come out on top," asserts Wolff. "It will be a close fight, and hopefully, we can finish the season with a strong performance and on the front foot."

Reflecting on the challenging Las Vegas Grand Prix, where both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell faced setbacks, Wolff acknowledges the exceptional nature of the event. "Las Vegas was an extraordinary event. We saw a fantastic race, visually spectacular, and overall, a great Grand Prix that I am sure has helped increase the visibility of the sport in the United States," he says.

However, he also laments missed opportunities: "Without the numerous incidents of contact, both Lewis and George would have been challenging for the podium. But that's a case of could have, would have, should have."

As the F1 season hurtles towards its conclusion, all eyes are now on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Set against the backdrop of the Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, the 5.281-kilometre track promises an exhilarating showdown over 58 laps.

The Yas Marina Circuit, with its unique night-time setting, marks a fitting end to the 2023 Formula 1 season. Featuring covered grandstands and air-conditioned garages, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix ensures both the safety of spectators and the comfort of competing teams.

Wolff's determined stance sets the stage for a thrilling battle in the desert night, where Mercedes aim to fend off Ferrari's charge and secure a final flourish to their 2023 campaign.
