Giancarlo Fisichella: Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso can secure third Formula 1 World Championship

Former driver Giancarlo Fisichella firmly believes that Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has the ability to secure a remarkable third Formula 1 World Championship before retiring from the sport.

Former teammate Giancarlo Fisichella has expressed his belief that Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has what it takes to clinch a third Formula 1 World Championship before retiring from the sport.

Alonso, currently vying for his 33rd F1 victory, has already secured four podium finishes in the ongoing 2023 season, placing him third in the Drivers' standings.

As Aston Martin strives to narrow the gap to championship leaders Red Bull, expectations are soaring for their performance at the imminent Monaco Grand Prix.

Although considerable time has elapsed since Alonso's consecutive Formula 1 titles in 2005 and 2006, Fisichella, who partnered with the Spaniard during those championship-winning years at Renault, remains optimistic about the 41-year-old's prospects for another triumph.

"I believe that with a competitive car, Fernando can seize another championship," Fisichella conveyed to Sky Sports News.

"Fernando Alonso is defying the odds, ageing but quick—I'm baffled by his prowess!"

Reflecting on their time together as teammates in 2005 and 2006, during which they secured both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships for Renault, Fisichella lauded Alonso, stating, "It was an extraordinary experience collaborating with him."

"I'm delighted to witness his current form, consistently securing podium finishes," he added.

Aston Martin has made remarkable strides this season, presently occupying second place in the Constructors' Championship—an impressive turnaround from their seventh-place finish in 2022.

Fisichella lauded the team's rapid progress, affirming, "This year, they have shown immense strength—the car is exceptional."

"Particularly in terms of tire degradation over extended distances, it appears to be the top-performing car."

Fisichella also commended Aston Martin as an incredible team, marvelling at their swift growth and development.

The forthcoming F1 race will be held at the challenging Monaco Grand Prix circuit, notorious for its limited overtaking opportunities, emphasizing the significance of a strong qualifying session for achieving success.
