Aston Martin junior Felipe Drugovich set for FP1 session at Italian Grand Prix

Aston Martin's Felipe Drugovich will get an opportunity for a drive during FP1 at the Italian GP.
Aston Martin's rising talent Felipe Drugovich is slated to pilot Lance Stroll's AMR23 car during the FP1 session at the 2023 Italian Grand Prix.
Having upheld his affiliation with Aston Martin as a junior driver for nearly a year, Drugovich holds the dual distinction of being among its official reserve drivers, sharing this role with former McLaren competitor Stoffel Vandoorne.
He is set to participate in the FP1 session at the Monza circuit, the very track where he clinched the 2022 Formula 2 championship title.
Drugovich also boasts prior exposure to handling the AMR23. He previously stepped into Stroll's shoes during multiple segments of the Bahrain pre-season test, an opportunity that arose due to Stroll's absence following a cycling accident and the subsequent injuries he sustained.
"I can't wait to get back behind the wheel of the AMR23," said Drugovich.
"The car felt great when I drove it in pre-season testing and it will be fascinating to feel how it has improved since then.
"I've spent a lot of time in the simulator helping to develop the car, so understanding how that correlates to the real thing will be super valuable for me too.
"It's also a fantastic opportunity for me to demonstrate what I've learnt through my testing programme.
"Since Bahrain I've done many more miles in an F1 car so I have an even better understanding of how I can deliver valuable feedback for the team."
Drugovich has engaged in testing sessions at circuits including Silverstone, Barcelona, and the Red Bull Ring.
Additionally, his association with a substantial Brazilian sponsor adds another layer to his profile. This backing could potentially position him as a late contender in the 2024 driver market.
This scenario is especially relevant for teams positioned towards the back of the grid that currently possess available slots for the upcoming season.
Furthermore, there have been discussions linking Drugovich to a prospective transition into Formula E for the 2024 season.
"We are delighted to be able to provide Felipe with another opportunity to drive the AMR23," said Aston team principal Mike Krack.
"He demonstrated his capabilities in pre-season testing, with a vital contribution to the team's initial development of the car.
"Monza will offer another chance for Felipe to work closely with the engineers and mechanics and build his confidence in a critical session for the team.
"We look forward to maximising this session together."
