UFC Fight Night tips: Welterweight prospects collide as Josh Quinlan takes on Trey Waters

Josh Quinlan takes on Trey Waters in the opening bout of UFC Fight Night. Check out our preview, key stats and suggested bet for the fight.

Welterweight is one of the deepest divisions in the UFC and with prospects such as Josh Quinlan and Trey Waters its easy to see why.

Quinlan is a successful product of Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series, where he dispatched Logan Urban inside of a minute to secure himself a UFC contract.
He again showed off his murderous punching power in his UFC debut, stopping Jason Witt with a picture-perfect left hook.

Despite all of his skills, controversy is never far from a Josh Quinlan fight. He tested positive for a banned substance against Urban and missed weight against Witt, leaving him in a precarious position despite his talents.

The man tasked with avoiding the Quinlan controversy next is Trey Waters.

Another Contender Series competitor, Waters came up short in his bout with Gabriel Bonfim but when the chance to step in against Quinlan arose Waters accepted without hesitation.

Standing at 6'5" with a 77" reach, Waters towers over most of his competition, using his long limbs to whip strikes and sneak submissions on his opposition.

To stay safe against Quinlan he must be switched on at all times.

The 30-year-old has shown fight ending knockout power with his hooks so Waters must stay on the outside and use his 5" reach advantage as well as possible.

Quinlan must test the cardio of Waters, taking this fight on less than a weeks' notice gave him no chance for a camp, so he must try and take him to the deep waters in order to drown the big man late in the fight.

Key stats

Quinlan has never been to a decision in his career.
Waters last competed two weeks ago, defeating Jalin Fuller by second round knockout.

Suggested bet

Total rounds completed: At least one.
