UFC Fight Night Kansas City tips: Tanner Boser takes on pastures new against Ion Cutelaba

It’s all change for Canada’s Tanner Boser as he looks to kickstart his career with a move down to light-heavyweight, where he will be welcomed by Moldovan machine Ion Cutelaba.

A big man with fast hands is always going to catch eyes at heavyweight. Convincing victories over Philipe Lins and Raphael Pessoa put Boser on track for big things, but one win in his last four fights have seen him make the decision to drop to light-heavyweight to seek a new challenge.

His dance partner for his light-heavyweight debut will be Ion Cutelaba, a Moldovan brawler whose intensity always filters through into his fights.

When on form, Cutelaba is one of the most dangerous men at light-heavyweight. Brutal boxing and non-stop pressure have stopped the likes of Khalil Rountree and Gadzhimurad Antigulov all before the judges had to get involved.

Unfortunately for Cutelaba, his kill or be killed style has been known to get him into trouble. When facing Magomed Ankalaev, for instance, his desire to finish the fight as soon as possible led him to being finished by his Russian opponent in the first round of both of their fights.

If Boser is to succeed in this fight he must avoid falling in to the gameplan of Cutelaba. Even during the weigh ins of his previous bouts his intensity is extreme, often screaming in the face of his opponents.

Boser must stay measured and technical, avoiding getting into a firefight with Cutelaba.

If he fails, Cutelaba has the power to put him away in the first round, giving him a very unhappy welcome to the light-heavyweight division.
