UFC 301 results: Alexandre Pantoja taken to the distance, Jose Aldo returns, bad night for Brits

Alexandre Pantoja was taken through the full five rounds by Steve Erceg in the main event of UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro.

The hometown UFC flyweight champion ultimately came out on top and successfully defended his belt, with the judges scoring the title bout 48-47, 48-47, 49-46 in his favour.

Pantoja came out of the blocks with aggression and intent, though Erceg weathered the early storm and survived the full five rounds.

Nevertheless, it was the Brazilian who kept hold of his championship and improved his record to 28-5.

In the co-main event, UFC legend Jose Aldo marked his return to the octagon in fine style.

The Brazilian MMA icon looked sharp as he picked up a unanimous decision win over Jonathan Martinez.

All three judges scored the bout 30-27 in favour of Aldo who was competing in his first bout since his August 2022 defeat to Merab Dvalishvili.

As for the tow British fighters on the card, there was far less to shout about.

Scotland’s Paul Craig was knocked out by Caio Borralho in the second round of his middleweight contest.

Earlier in the night, Welshman Jack Shore endured a gruesome cut on his left shin which put an early end to his bout against Joanderson Brito.
