‘Records are for DJs’ – PFL Europe’s John Mitchell not fazed by Jakub Kaszuba’s unbeaten record

John Mitchell is just one win away from becoming the inaugural PFL Europe lightweight champion as he prepares to take on Jakub Kaszuba this Friday night in Dublin.

Mitchell sealed his place in the $100k fight with back-to-back victories over Frenchman Geysim Derouiche.

The Irishman won successive unanimous decisions and will now look to stamp his name in the history books as he battles Kaszuba on home territory.

The Polish fighter has already defeated one Irish fighter to force his way into the final – a points win over Dylan Tuke.

Kaszuba boasts a 10-0 professional record, with six of those victories coming by either knockout or submission.

“He’s good, there’s no one in PFL that’s bad,” Mitchell told Planet Sport when asked about his opponent.

“You get these fighters talking saying ‘he’s this and he’s that’, he wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t decent.

“We both have good records, we both know the story. I think I’m level above, of course I’m sure he thinks the same. That’s what is going to make a great fight.

“He’s 10-0 and I’m 8-1. I should be 9-0 but I made one little slip-up in that fight. I fought all good guys, if you look at my amateur career, I’ve got nearly twice the fights he has.

“I fought a guy who was 6-0 and it was probably the easiest fight of my life. Records are for DJs, that really doesn’t come into it, it’s just a numbers game.”

This will be Mitchell’s fifth outing in 13 months, yet the Irishman is adamant that his body is not feeling the strain of PFL’s lively schedule.

He said: “Honestly, I think you can see who enjoys to fight by who fights the most regularly. I love it, I love being in the mix. Even now, going into my fifth fight I don’t feel burned out at all. I just feel ready. I’ve come across all these emotions before.

“I love it. Even next year, the PFL can put me on five more times and I’m good to go.”

Fans can watch Mitchell’s lightweight title showdown against Kaszuba live on DAZN this Friday night.
