Max Holloway goes in on ‘questionable’ Ilia Topuria – ‘Sign on the dotted line, don’t make excuses’

Max Holloway takes on Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 this weekend, though the 32-year-old is also keeping close tabs current featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria.

Holloway’s bout with Gaethje is for the BMF title and will be contested at 155 pounds. However, the former featherweight title holder admitted he is not done with the 145-pound division.

The American is keeping his options open and during Wednesday’s media day, he decided to ask a few questions of Topuria.

“In this sport, having options is always good,” said Holloway. “First thing’s first is Justin Gaethje, but there’s a fun fight down there.

“The man keeps talking, and I keep hearing. My only advice to that guys is when the contract comes up, sign on the dotted line. Don’t make no excuses.”

Topuria claimed the featherweight championship last February by knocking out Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298.

The Spaniard had already dismissed Holloway as a potential opponent, arguing it wouldn’t make sense going to battle with someone who had already suffered three defeats to Volkanovski.

Holloway hit back by suggesting that Topuria avoided him during his UFC rise.

He said: “Everybody keeps asking me, what do I think of Topuria? He’s questionable.

“I’ll fight him. Go ask him that question. Ask him that question about me. At the end of the day, UFC, I always want to fight for the title, I always want to do this, a lot of contenders, they gave me a lot of up and coming contenders, and there’s one that didn’t come my way. You can ask UFC about that, you can ask him the question.”

UFC 300 takes place this Saturday night with Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill going head-to-head in the main event for the light heavyweight title.
