Ian Machado Garry makes Colby Covington fight admission; grudge match yet to be made official

Ian Machado Garry took to social media on Tuesday to provide fans with an exciting update on a potential fight with Colby Covington.

According to the Irishman, he has agreed to fight his American rival, with a date already set for such bout.

However, the 26-year-old also revealed that Covington is yet to sign the contract, casting doubt on whether the showdown will transpire.

In an Instagram video, Garry said: “I just want to let everyone know, I have agreed to fight Colby Covington.

"There’s a date in place - Colby still hasn’t signed the contract.”

Garry was last in action at UFC 298 when he picked up a split decision victory over Geoff Neal.

Following that victory, the Irishman stepped up his efforts to book a fight against three-time UFC title challenger Covington.

The 36-year-old last challenged for the UFC welterweight championship back in December at UFC 296.

Covington was unable to get over the line as he lost against Leaon Edwards by unanimous decision.

Bad blood between Covington and Garry started when the American made a number of unsavoury comments about his opponent’s wife and family.

The former interim-welterweight champion has a history of controversies during his time in the UFC.

Ahead of his bout with Edwards, Covington landed in hot water after making a disrespectful comment about his opponent’s father who was murdered when Edwards was just 13 years old.
