Bellator 299 results: Johnny Eblen delivers devastating finish against Fabian Edwards

Johnny Eblen

Fabian Edwards came up short in his Bellator middleweight title tilt after being brutally knocked out in the third round by Johnny Eblen at Dublin’s 3Arena.

The Birmingham fighter was seeking to join older brother Leon, the UFC welterweight titlist, as world champion at Bellator 299 and opened up a nasty gash over Eblen’s right eye with an elbow in round two.

Eblen, though, responded immediately in the next round, putting Edwards down with a vicious right hand, following up the blow with some ground and pound before pinpoint elbows knocked the Briton out.

The referee intervened by shoving away Eblen, who briefly stood over his rival and seemingly taunted him, before the American wheeled away in celebration at a second successful defence of his crown.

Eblen’s exuberance threatened to spill over as the entourages entered the octagon and the elder Edwards had to be held back from the victor, although tensions quickly cooled down.

While Eblen celebrated his 14th victory from as many mixed martial arts contests, Edwards slipped to his third defeat in 15 fights, ending a three-fight win streak that earned him a title shot.
