Pontefract top racing tip: Benadalid can defy big odds

Tipstrr horse racing pundit Steve Jones (who runs CD Systems Daily Bargain on Tipstrr) has cast his expert eye over Wednesday’s flat meeting at Pontefract to pick out his best value bet of the day.

We'll discuss the favourite in due course, but one who can beat him today is the even more attractively handicapped Benadalid, who was rated 83 at the start of last season and who now competes off just 70 under a set of conditions proven to suit.
He has been here twice before as a five-year-old, both times for handicaps over today's course and distance, and he demonstrated on each occasion that an uphill 10 furlongs suits him ideally.
Benadalid arrives following two more promising 10-furlong outings since returning to action last month, the first of which saw him beaten a nose in a nine-runner 0-72 contest back at Doncaster, which took place on much deeper ground than he cares for.
Suggested bet: Benadalid to win the 14:50 at Pontefract
It was also softer than he likes for his most recent run, which saw him finish fourth of 13 in a stronger 0-77 contest at Redcar, missing the places by just half a length at Redcar.
Both runs were under today's rider and the partnership will be happy to get back on better ground, as well as a more testing track, just as the yard has hit top form with two winners from just three runners in the last couple of weeks.
Elsewhere Isle Of Wolves deserves his place at the head of the early market following a series of eight all-weather handicaps since mid-December which has seen him finish runner-up on no less than six occasions.
Next best bet: Isle Of Wolves in the 14:50 at Pontefract
He is yet to win on synthetics but he now switches back to turf off a mark of 64 which is eight pounds below the 72 off which he ran when last seen on grass.
Isle Of Wolves was off the track from October 2020 until he re-emerged on the all-weather in November last year, and he arrives here in very good shape, so it surely won't be long before he is back in the winners' enclosure.
