Newmarket each-way racing tip: Conditions look tailor made for Torcello

On another big day at Newmarket, each-way specialist Richard Hutchinson, who runs Read Between The Lines on the Tipstrr site, has picked out his best value bet from one of the earlier races there.

13:50 Newmarket: Howden Handicap (Heritage Handicap)

This is a big staying handicap on 1000 Guineas Day, so it will be very competitive, but with conditions coming up soft many will struggle to cope with the cut in the ground (only five of the 17 runners have won on similar going).

One that shouldn't be inconvenienced by the ground is Torcello who is prolific on soft, having won 5 from 12 starts (plus two places). When you also note that Torcello has also won twice from three starts at the Rowley Newmarket course (including his final run of last season), then we are looking at a horse with conditions very much in his favour.

His season debut at Doncaster five weeks ago can be forgiven as an early-season pipe-opener in which he found himself badly positioned, and the in-form Joe Fanning (14 wins from 71 starts this season) is likely to produce a better ride than the amateur jockey did that day.
He still looks nicely handicapped off 87, having been as high as 93, and with the recent application of blinkers helping revitalise him this prize is well within his grasp.

With up to six places being offered by bookmakers, any double-digit price carries solid each-way value.

Suggested bet: Torcello each-way in the 13:50 at Newmarket
