Dubai World Cup tip: Frankie Dettori and Country Grammer primed to raise the roof in Meydan farewell

Dubai World Cup Night offers a thrilling end to a great day’s racing, with legendary Frankie Dettori looking to sign off his Meydan career in style by repeating last year’s win aboard Country Grammer.

While the sentimentalists among us would not begrudge Frankie Dettori a triumphant farewell at the Meydan track, the jockey himself will be focused on far more than his own swansong.

Firstly, there is a small matter of a $12million prize pot up for grabs for the 15 runners and riders (and owners), and secondly the Dubai World Cup has become one of the most prestigious races a jockey can have on his or her CV.

Dettori knows this more than most, having landing this race four times before, kicking off with Dubai Millennium in 2000, and most recently just last year with today's mount, Country Grammer.
Country Grammer has not finished outside the top two in his last nine outings (three wins, six runners-up), with those successes including this renewal a year go when he stayed on strongly to win by almost two lengths.

He showed his quality and power again in last month's Saudi Cup, when he looked down and out a furlong out, before powering through all but one of the field, eventually running out of distance just three quarters of a length behind the reopposing Panthalassa.

If Dettori can bring Country Grammer into contention a little earlier than in Riyadh, then the Dubai crowd might just get the finale they want, and the roof could come off Meydan's half-mile long grandstand.
