Cheltenham Festival 2023: Mares' Novices' tips - Luccia firm favourite but Foxy Girl looks good

The ITV cameras might be turned off, but there’s still two competitive races to enjoy, kicking off with the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, which is often one of the most exciting races of the Festival.

This race was renamed this year in memory of Henry de Bromhead's young son Jack, who tragically died in a recent riding accident.

The popular trainer has five runners in this race and no-one would begrudge him a victory in what will be an emotional occasion.

To do so, however, one of his horses must finish in front of the short-priced favourite Luccia, who won two bumpers last season and cruised to victory in both of her hurdling outings in November and February by 5.5 and 11 lengths respectively.

Top tip: Luccia

Beyond the favourite and De Bromhead's runners, the one to catch the eye of Tipstrr's pundits is Foxy Girl, who showed her capabilities when landing an 18-runner handicap at Limerick on Boxing Day.

The fact she did so in heavy going suggests today's slightly longer trip will be of no concern, and with Rachael Blackmore in the saddle, she is sure to be given the optimum ride.
