Cheltenham Festival 2023: Coral Cup tips - Langer Dan in with an each-way chance

With 26 runners in the Class 1 Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle, there are plenty of betting opportunities up for grabs, and one of Tipstrr's experienced punters has tried to narrow down the field for us.

First up is An Epic Song, and we must forgive his two most recent outings and remember the impressive win he enjoyed at Punchestown in December 2021.

He has been prepared almost exclusively for this race which is over his longest trip yet and we will hope that wearing cheekpieces and a tongues strap for the first time will have the desired effect.

Icare Allen impressed with his excellent fourth place here in last year's Triumph Hurdle when he was 10/1 in the betting.

Three outings since then have brought two third places and an underwhelming 14th of 16 on unsuitably firm ground in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury a month ago. This represents a big step up in trip but it would be wrong to discount the possibility that this unexposed five-year-old is up to the task.

Most eyecatching of all to me is Langer Dan, and I find it significant that his trainer, Dan Skelton, has included him in this race and not in the Martin Pipe, which he has participated in for the last two years, when he finished second and failed to finish respectively.

His best results are usually obtained in spring, so he arrives in good shape and might just have been shifted to this renewal for a reason
