Bath top racing tip: God Of Thunder has stamina to storm home

From a full Bank Holiday racecard, Tipstrr pundit Steve Jones has picked out his best value bet from the Flat meeting at Bath.

A decent bet at the prices under these conditions is the race-fit four-year-old, God Of Thunder, who arrives in good form following a close-up third of nine on his seasonal debut at Windsor a week ago, his first outing for 216 days.

That run was in a soft-ground 0-72 handicap over a longer 11.5-furlong trip and he was never nearer than at the finish on what was his first try over further than 10 furlongs, suggesting that he has more than enough stamina for this testing trip and he should be strong up the finishing hill.

He ran in two 10-furlong handicaps on turf just prior to his winter break, coming very close to winning on good ground at Nottingham, and then being backed into favourite at Newmarket, only to be beaten for finishing speed on quicker ground, eventually settling for third.

A slower surface over this trip will be much more to his liking, as will the uphill climb to the line, which should bring his stamina into play.

Now a pound lower and having returned to action in good shape, God Of Thunder looks a good bet from a handy stall four with Pat Dobbs, who rode him last week and who rides this track well, in the saddle again.

Of the others, Prophet's Dream is a very lightly-raced four-year-old who ended last season with a near-miss at Goodwood, beaten by a nose into second place a 0-73 handicap over 10 furlongs on soft ground.

The narrow winner, Simply Sondheim, couldn't have advertised the form any better because, having won his three previous handicaps, he then continued his progressive form by winning another three from his next four outings.
With Prophet's Dream and Simply Sondheim finishing clear of the others, the form looks strong for the grade, so provided Prophet's Dream is ready to go first time back, he should be a major player off just three pounds higher (the yard had a first-time-out winner a couple of weeks ago).
