Queen Mother Champion Chase 2022 entries: Get ready for Shishkin V Energumene

A compelling clash of the titans between Nicky Henderson's Shishkin and Willie Mullins' Energumene for the Queen Mother Champion Chase is well and truly on at the Cheltenham Festival. March 16, 2022.

Cheltenham Festival fans are waiting with baited breath for a battle between Shishkin and Energumene as the pair were announced among 22 contenders for the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase 2022.

Superstar chaser Shishkin landed the Arkle at last year's meeting for Nicky Henderson, before progressing to more Grade 1 glory at Aintree, while he remained unbeaten over fences, when making an sturdy return in the Desert Orchid Chase over the Christmas period.

An unfortunate late setback meant Willie Mullins' Energumene didn't feature in the Arkle, but he showed his fitness at the Punchestown Festival and is yet to be headed in five chase starts, most recently landing the Hilly Way at Cork.

He is one of three entries for Mullins, along with Allaho and Chacun Pour Soi, who was third in this race last year.

De Bromhead's reigning champion Put The Kettle On is entered again, but she has yet to show similar form this term, while runner-up Nube Negra could make the final cut for Team Skelton.

Envoi Allen is another of four De Bromhead entries, along with Notebook and Captain Guinness, aiming to get the job done for the Irish contingent.

Paul Nicholls' Tingle Creek hero Greaneteen, a progressive type who can't be discounted, is one of four entries for the champion trainer. The Ditcheat handler has also entered Politologue, Hitman and Rouge Vif.

Veteran trainer Kim Bailey, who has wone the Grand National, Cheltenham Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle, puts up First Flow for the Queen Mother test from his resurgent yard.

Meanwhile the embattled Gordon Elliott has made a trio of entries with Battleoverdoyen, Hardline and Samcro big outsiders at this stage.
