Nottingham nap April 6: Morrison's runner to be thorn in opponents' side

The Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham is an early-season marker for the stayers and Planet Sport’s Jonathan Doidge has a selection for the race, which takes place on Wednesday, April 6.

Just five go to post for what is these days known as the Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes (16:00), a Listed race that carries the great former trainer's moniker due to his excellent record in the contest.

The field may be small in number but has some quality entrants, with the Gosdens among those represented and also Ger Lyons sending over Yaxeni from Ireland. Had the ground been testing, he'd be more firmly in my thoughts.

You'd have to respect Alan King-trained Trueshan but he, too would prefer some cut and he might just be worth taking on first time, with Quickthorn.

Hughie Morrison's five-year-old has won first time out for the last two seasons, he goes well on a sound surface and although he has 5lb to find with Trueshan, he might be able to bridge that gap.

So it's Quickthorn, a sporting selection in the 16:00 at Nottingham on Wednesday.
