May 4 Racing Tips: Can Sky Lake go one better at Wolverhampton?

Tuesday May 4 brings us racing at Lingfield, Wolverhampton, Southwell, Fakenham and Ayr. Planet Sport tipsters have a few selections that might take your fancy.

A right mixed bag of all weather, Polytrack, turf, Flat and jumps racing today. Can we pick you a winner...or two?

5.30 - Wolverhampton

It may be worth an early plunge on Sky Lake in the opening New Betting Sites At bellbet.com Handicap.

The four-year-old outran her odds on stable debut for Kevin Philippart De Foy when a highly-encouraging second over this course and distance a month ago.

The winner that day did not uphold the form next time but was previously successful here, and there was much to like about the way Sky Lake finished her race on return from a two-and-a-half-month break.

She has been given a sensible short rest since, is up just 2lb and has a good opportunity for a first victory since striking on her second career start as a juvenile back in October 2019.

6.00 - Wolverhampton

Cathayensis represents the in-form partnership of trainer Grant Tuer and jockey Sam James in the New Free Bets At bellbet.com Handicap.

She did so to great effect when breaking her duck at the fourth attempt at Newcastle just under a month ago.

That was over seven furlongs but over a much stiffer track, so the extended mile here ought to suit fine.

Cathayensis was nicely on top in the end at Gosforth Park, and the runner-up has again gone close since, so she may well be able to cope with her 6lb rise.

8.00 - Wolverhampton

Degree should be capable of making the grade at the second attempt, in the Best Betting Sites At bellbet.com Fillies' Novice Stakes.

Sir Michael Stoute's Cheveley Park representative showed up well when third over this same seven-furlong trip at Lingfield on her December debut.

The runner-up that day was already more experienced and has won twice since, so Degree's connections have every right to anticipate she can follow suit.

Other selections at Wolverhampton include: 6.30 Symbol Of Hope, 7.00 Toplight, 7.30 Clifftop Heaven, 8.30 Van Dijk.

12.30 - Lingfield

The reassuring presence of jockey Tom Marquand has fine prospects with Flying West in the Read Hollie Doyle's Column On attheraces.com Handicap.

Flying West ran as if her return from a near six-month break was needed when a close sixth at Kempton three weeks ago.

She can be expected to be much straighter here and ran with great consistency on a variety of surfaces last year - including a course-and-distance victory on debut - to suggest she could be well up to this task.

Marquand was on board for two autumn wins in handicaps, and it is encouraging that he renews the partnership.

1.30 - Lingfield

Beau Jardine can continue to prosper in the Witheford Barrier Trials At Lingfield Park Novice Stakes.

Roger Varian's colt must concede his winner's penalty to a clutch of unraced rivals with potential among an 11-strong field.

He was convincing on his successful debut last November, however, beating a previous winner into third and a useful stablemate into fifth.

Beau Jardine faces a significantly different task here, switching up a furlong on the Polytrack after his initial victory on heavy ground at Newmarket.

The extra yardage makes sense on pedigree, though, and it is not difficult to see Andrea Atzeni making full use of his mount's racecourse experience to dominate the opposition at this nascent stage of their respective careers.

Other fancies at Lingfield include: 1.00 Glentaneous, 2.00 Thaki, 2.30 Swiss Pride, 3.05 Mutasallem, 3.40 Mythical Star, 4.15 Hammy End.

2.20 - Ayr

Bootlegger is of interest over the jumps in the Join Racing TV Now Handicap Chase.

Trainer Tristan Davidson is in form, and the eight-year-old has performed well in all three starts since moving north to his Cumbrian yard.

Bootlegger has yet to win at this trip. But Ayr's flat track does not place a major emphasis on stamina - and with good ground forecast, plenty is in place for a big run.

Keep an eye on these selections at Ayr: 1.15 The Caretaker, 1.45 Tico Times, 2.55 Sidi Ismael, 3.30 Charm Offensive, 4.05 Mannochmore, 4.40 Andante, 5.10 Memors.

4.25 - Fakenham

Fakenham stages the Snellings Norfolk National Handicap Chase, a race that could be coming at just the right time for Lord Getaway.

James Evans' nine-year-old has managed just two runs in the last 15 months but performed with credit as runner-up at the start of April.

He should improve from that Uttoxeter return, and this marathon trip on a sharp track looks an ideal combination.

Other tips for Fakenham include: 2.10 Ar Mest, 2.45 Barden Bella, 3.20 Tossapenny, 3.55 Top Beak, 4.55 Tullys Touch.

Southwell

Southwell selections: 4.45 Heavey, 5.15 Starjac, 5.50 Calidad, 6.20 Saturday Song, 6.50 Envol De La Cour, 7.20 No Ordinary Joe, 7.50 Mamoo, 8.20 Power Home.
