Leicester Expert Eye: Course stats and three horses to back for profit

Leicester's all chase card get the expert eye treatment with three horses flagged up as decent bets.

If you're considering a bet you'll also be interested in the following course stats and the Planet Sport Live Centre is well worth a visit too, as it's here you'll find the highly informative Leicester race card.

Selections:

Great D'Ange (13.30 Leicester)

The Edgar Wallace (14.40 Leicester)

Boagrius (15.15 Leicester)

Course characteristics

Right-handed and undulating, placing emphasis on stamina. Circuit 1m6f.

Top trainers with runners

Dan Skelton is operating at a 1-3 strike reate here with 17 of his 51 runners over the past five seasons ending up in the winners' enclosure. His sole representative this afternoon, Marracudja in the closing hunters' chase (17.50), looks to have a great chance of following up his recent course win.

Olly Murphy is 13-38 (34%) over the same period and 7-19 (37%) in the current seasaon, which makes his Out The Glen of significant interest in the class 5 2m4f handicap chase (13.00).

Top jockeys with rides

Sam Twiston-Davies, who is a respectable 10-48 (21%) here, has two chances to boost that tally: Onchan (13.30) and Yccs Portocervo (14.40).
Backing all of his Daryl Jacob's rides at the track blind would have yielded a £25.74 profit to £1 level-stakes, with five of his 14 mounts (38%) obliging, and he's here for one ride, Torigini in the class 3 2m4f handicap chase (14.40).

13.30 Leicester - Great D'Ange

Two of the six runners in this 2m6f handicap chase have won at the track, namely Prairie Town and Radetzky March, but they are now 6lb and 14lb higher in the weights respectively and were both were beaten on their latest starts, the latter at odds-on.
First Figaro finally got off the mark over fences at the ninth time of asking when beating three rivals at Doncaster last time out following a 342-day break. Given he's won fresh before, it's no given the 12-year-old will back that up here.
So this looks a good opportunity for Tom George's Great D'Ange to begin his chase career on a winning note, with his opening mark of 100 surely underestimating him.
The six-year-old is built to be a chaser and cost his current connections €82,000 after an Irish point in the spring of last year, only to finish well beaten on his Rules debut in a Bangor bumper for which he wasn't unfancied.

He was then in the process of running a much better race on his hurdles debut at Wincanton in December, when fitted with a first-time tongue-tie, but was brought down when the favourite fell two out.
After a couple of well beaten efforts over hurdles since, it's no surprise to see him switched to the bigger obstacles over what is a more suitable trip, and we can also take plenty of encouragement from the form his stable: 5-14, 36%, in the last fortnight.

14.40 Leicester - The Edgar Wallace (nap)

Just the five runners for this 2m4f handicap chase and they are headed by Kim Bailey's The Edgar Wallace, who is fancied to make it 2-2 over fences despite not being seen out since making a winning chase debut at Market Rasen in November.
He was overcoming an even greater absence on that occasion in what was a decent race for the track, and he had one of today's rivals, Torigini (a winner since) comfortably beaten off in third.
There is almost certainly better to some from him on what is just his eighth start under Rules and in this sphere, with his trainer having an excellent record with similar chasing types, and he can land this before picking up a bigger prize in the spring.
His remaining three rivals all look more exposed and eminently beatable, although Paul Nicholls' Cut The Mustard, who was winning for the first time in two years when beating fellow mares here last time, is respected.

15.15 Leicester - Boagrius

Tom George's ten-year-old has become very well handicapped and with plenty of stablemates winning recently, he might be able to take advantage in this 2m handicap chase now fitted with first-time cheekpieces.
A record of 2-19 over fences doesn't exactly inspire confidence, admittedly, but he paid the price for winning back-to-back handicap chases at the beginning of 2019, including one here off a mark of 126, and is now 20lb lower having been cut some slack by the handicapper.
He'll also appreciate today's better ground having got bogged down in heavy conditions when last seen out, so there are plenty of reasons to believe he can see off today's four rivals.
The best of these may be Pride Of Lecale, a winner at Ffos Las in January and runner here on his most recent outing, when again impressing with his jumping. However, he's done all his winning on heavy ground.
