Frankie Focus: Dettori's winning chances on the final day of Royal Ascot

Planet Sport assesses all of Frankie Dettori's rides on day four of Royal Ascot 2021.

An unexpected bonus for Frankie fans on Friday as his mount Campanalle was handed the Commonwealth Cup after a stewards' enquiry.
The Wesley Ward-trained sprinter Campanelle was always travelling swiftly but appeared to have been headed on the line by Dragon Symbol in the six furlong contest.
Yet, Archie Watson's Dragon Symbol was deemed to have veered to the right, obstructing Dettori and so the placings were reversed, giving Dettori a 76th Royal Ascot win.
Planet Sport assesses Dettori's seven rides on the final day at Royal Ascot with the Italian sure to go out on a high.

2.30 Chesham Stakes - Reach For The Moon

Typically classy for a horse owned by The Queen, Reach For The Moon is sired by the superlative Sea The Stars, while her majesty bred the dam Golden Stream.

A reasonable second on his first start behind today's rival New Science at Yarmouth, Reach For The Moon should come on for this and trainers John and Thady Gosden present a serious force when teaming up with Dettori.

Possibly named after a throw-away line in the S Club 7 song "Reach" (or probably not), punters' dreams will all come true if Reach For The Moon rattles in and an-each way bet shouldn't be out of the question.

3.05 Jersey Stakes - Fundamental

Dettori hosed up on the Cheveley Park runner Indie Angel at odds of 22/1 on Wednesday and this horse has the same owners and sire.

Dark Angel fathered Indie Angel and a half-decent sprinter you may have heard of called Baataash, so Fundamental's breeding is there for all to see, in this seven furlong contest.

Fundamental has improved nicely from a novice stakes success on the all-weather at Chelmsford and finished second in a listed race on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket in May.

Testing ground will be an unknown factor but a place finish for Dettori in the famous red and white Cheveley Park stud silks is not out of the question.
An each-way bet at odds of 10/1 or more could be fundamentally a good option.

Star rating: 3 stars

3.40 Hardwicke Stakes - Logician

Dettori and John Gosden teamed up last year to take the one mile four furlong Hardwicke Stakes with Fanny Logan.

They go into this one with a horse that screams Frankel with Logician sired by the greatest horse of all time and that also runs in the pink and green colours of the late Khaled Abdulla, who owned Frankel.

While Logician has diverted from Frankel's faultless form by having a four and a three next to his name, he won the St Leger in 2019, bringing some serious historic form to proceedings.

Raced just three times since the Doncaster classic success, if the five-year-old can summon anything like the St Leger run he'll have strong each-way claims.

A place bet at odds in excess of 10/1 on Logician is the sensible choice.

4.20 Diamond Jubilee Stakes - Final Song

Behind Extravagant Kid in a Group One Meydan Sprint, the horse that Dettori rode into third on Tuesday in the King's Stand Stakes, Final Song has been campaigned through the winter in Dubai.

That warm-weather prep and the superb Godolphin facilities in Newmarket should have Final Song in tip-top condition but much depends on which Saaed Bin Suroor performer turns up.

A decent Godolphin victory in the Royal Hunt Cup for Real World, prepped similarly to Final Song at Meydan, was followed up by two low-ranked placings on Thursday for Bin Suroor runners.

If running to the Meydan form rather than the ninth place at York last time out on good to soft, then Final Song may hit the high notes. However on heavy going this looks too tough a task to wager with authority.

5.00 Wokingham Stakes - Desert Safari

The name Desert Safari seems a cruel joke given the recent rain at Royal Ascot, with sodden ground rather than sand the conditions at play.

However, the Mark Johnston trained Subjectivist turned over Stradivarius and the Gold Cup winning Scottish handler will be buzzing with confidence for this sprint on the final day at Ascot.

An all-weather winner at Kempton and on good to firm ground at Goodwood, the saturated ground of Ascot will present an all-together different challenge for Desert Safari, even in the hands of Dettori.

Desert Safari has improved and is fairly versatile but the 30 runner field may prove too tough to negotiate on this occasion.

Star rating: 2 stars

5.35 Golden Gates Stakes - King Frankel

This Mark Johnston colt confidently bears the name of his top sire Frankel and goes into the Golden Gates Stakes as a leading fancy.

A whole slew of seconds, including in a Class 2 at Epsom on good to soft puts King Frankel in a solid place to crown himself with a win at Ascot.

In the race named similarly to the famous San Francisco landmark, the victory shouldn't be a bridge too far for this horse with serious breeding and form over one mile, two furlongs.

Star rating: 4 stars

6.10 Queen Alexandra Stakes - Falcon Eight

An elder statesman of Irish racing, any favourite of Dermot Weld's deserves to be taken seriously and Falcon Eight could well swoop to take this two mile, five and a half furlong slog.

A win in the Chester Cup under Dettori over a similarly arduous two mile, two and a half furlong trip sets Falcon Ward up nicely for the Queen Alexandra. Indeed, Weld has reported Falcon Eight in good form going into the contest.
Surely unfazed by the ground, well treated in comparison with his rivals and with confidence in the market, Dettori could well finish his Royal Ascot 2021 with a bang. Go all out for the win bet.
