December 18 Racing Tips and Odds: Thyme Hill to prevail at Ascot on Saturday

There's a sensational day of action to get stuck into on Saturday and, after a fabulous Friday, Planet Sport tipster Pete Farries looks to cause the layers more damage with tips at Ascot and Haydock.

Here's a quick snapshot of Saturday's selections. Click on the horse's name to have a punt with Planet Sport Bet.

Thyme Hill (14:25 Ascot)

Onemorefortheroad (15:35 Ascot)

Potters Legend (14:40 Haydock Park)

14:25 Ascot - Thyme Hill

My favourite selection on Saturday goes in the Long Walk Hurdle (14:25) and it's Thyme Hill. Even before the withdrawal of Buzz on Friday, I thought this horse was the play in this Grade 1 contest.

He was very poor at Auteuil last time but the ground was very heavy that day and I just think it was a bad day and I don't worry too much about that run.

He was very close to winning this race last year and since then went on to do well in the Aintree Stayers' Hurdle. For me Thyme Hill has to be the play. I don't often back favourites in this kind of race but this time around I don't think there is any getting around it.

15:35 Ascot - Onemorefortheroad

My next best goes in the last race on the Ascot card, the Grade 3 Betfair Exchange Trophy (15:35). I'm going to go with Neil King's runner Onemorefortheroad each-way.

I think the price is quite big off the back of five wins from six starts this year, three in a row including Newbury and Stratford of late.

Okay, so the level of competition in this race compared to those is more stiff, but I still think his price is way too big and I think he may well be a good each-way play.

14:40 Haydock - Potters Legend

And if you're looking to put together a treble, then I'm going to head to Haydock Park for my third tip. It goes in the Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase (14:40).

The romantic in me was so close to going with Vintage Clouds after that Ultima win at Cheltenham but in the end I have gone instead with Potters Legend, each-way, for Lucy Wadham.

He finished fifth of 11 at Warwick last time but that was far from a terrible run. He has course and distance winning form and I think he is the sort of price that can give you a very tasty each-way play.
