Big priced tips for the Irish Derby: Hannibal Barca more than an outsider

It's the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on Saturday, June 25 and Planet Sport have scoured the runners for the best value tips. Hannibal Barca can move mountains for Joseph O'Brien.

The Epsom Derby has been and gone and now it's time for Irish eyes to smile with the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.

The one mile, four furlong Classic is headed by the Aiden O'Brien filly Tuesday but Planet Sport are looking elsewhere in search of value for the prestigious Group 1.

We've also got picks from other races on the Irish Derby card, so sit back, crack open a beer and let Planet Sport guide you through the bigger priced bets at the Curragh.

15.45 Curragh - Hannibal Barca (Irish Derby)

While Aidan O'Brien's Tuesday is dominating the Irish Derby market, his son Joseph's Hannibal Barca may be flying under the radar.
Joseph O'Brien is well on the way to continuing the O'Brien legacy and showed he had Group 1 quality with State Of Rest at Royal Ascot.
Hannical Barca is entered in the Irish Champion Stakes and can build on a win in the Gallinule Stakes where he won easy enough despite ducking right at the end.

This one's shares part of a name with FC Barcelona, known as "Barca" whose nickname is "More than a club". This could be more than a value each-way bet at 10/1 with three places available.

Keep an eye out too for Jim Bolger's Boundless Ocean who is dead last in the betting and available at 66/1 but who could outrun his odds for the master trainer. The Teofilo colt's second in the King George V Cup was no disgrace.

14.00 Curragh - Karkiyna

Johnny Murtagh has been there and done it as a jockey and looks to have a nice filly in Karkiyna, owned by none other than the Aga Khan.
A three and a half length maiden win at Fairyhouse was impressive for the daughter of Caravaggio.

Odd's of 6/1 are reasonable for the three-year-old under Danny Sheehy who takes off three pounds in the Dubai Duty Free Summer Fillies Handicap

14.35 Curragh - Straight Answer

Ger Lyons' Straight Answer provides plenty of class being a Juddmonte owned Kodiac colt, due to be ridden by the talented Colin Keane.

Likely to come on for a second in the Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown, the three-year-old could be suited by the step up to a mile.

Go straight for the win at 9/2 or more is our Straight Answer on this one in the Dubai Duty Free Celebration Stakes.
