August 13 Racing Tips: Top Secret capable of better at Newbury

Planet Sport tipster Luke Elder is back with his hot selection for racing at Newbury, Newmarket and the Curragh on Friday, August 13.

4.30 Newbury - Top Secret

Elder says: "The 4.30 at Newbury is a one-mile handicap where quite a few of these horses come into the race in rather inconsistent form.

"It would be harsh to apply that saying towards Turntable, who has only run one bad race in his recent past, before last time around was very consistent and on the whole just one blip at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

"Yes, was sent off at a pretty short-priced favourite and we know that Turntable is capable of better. I do expect to see a bit better here, but we will look elsewhere for the selection.

"That will be Top Secret for William Muir and Chris Grassick. Martin Dwyer taking over from Rob Havlin, who has been onboard in the last few occasions including when winning at Ascot a couple of starts ago. Things went right that day. They didn't go right at Newmarket last time around.

"Nothing, and I mean nothing, bar Top Secret made it into that contest from the rear of the field. You went to the front effectively, extraordinarily is the winner, and absolutely stayed there. I do think that Top Secret is capable of better.

"I still think he's fairly well-handicapped as well and if this race goes a little bit more towards his liking, I think Top Secret can return to winning ways.

"So Top Secret it is for myself, Martin Dwyer on board for William Muir and Chris Grassick, hopefully back in the winners' enclosure."

4.55 Curragh - Rough Diamond/Mi Esperanza

"Time for a trip now over the Irish Sea to the Curragh, where we've got one of those typical five-furlong Curragh handicaps that look fairly tough to work out.

"But a few of these have run against each other in the past, and no doubt they will do in the future as well, the likes of Strong Johnson, a winner last time around, he turns up in all the big five-furlong handicaps, mainly at the Curragh.

"But, we're going to look elsewhere. I've got this race between two runners - Mi Esperanza is one of them who, potentially, might be a bigger price, was a winner a couple of starts ago when making every single yard of the running.

"Came a bit unstuck at Cork last time around, I think you can forgive that run, drawn in stall 12, the last meeting over at the Curragh you really wanted to be stand-side rail - if you weren't there, you didn't have quite as much chance of winning and things were a rather thankless task if you were out in the centre.

"So, Mi Esperanza can jump out and bag the stand-side rail. The other one I want on side as well is Rough Diamond, who has been running well as of late was I say, an eye-catcher a couple of starts ago, ran really well here at the Curragh last time around, also, I think that was a bit of a tougher race than this.

"So, Rough Diamond, better can be expected this time over, so we'll split our stakes, we'll go for a couple in this - Mi Esperanza being one of them and Rough Diamond being the other."

6.08 Newmarket - Saga

"Well time now for the 6:08 over at Newmarket - the final selection of three in the afternoon and one that's a little more risky as I'm not overly sure what price Saga is going to be.

"It'll be more towards the shorter side of things but he could just be a horse you use in your accumulators throughout the course of the day.

"Regardless of price, if I were to nominate a horse this afternoon going into the evening that I think will just win, Saga would be that horse who was a big eye-catcher on debut behind Modern Games, the winner hasn't exactly franked that form, ran well at Leicester when getting beaten under a penalty but you'd maybe have liked to see a little bit more but Modern Games had the run of things on that occasion.

"Saga obviously was on debut running against an experienced rival, did make up a lot of ground from the back and potentially on the wrong part of the course as well, but was a massive eye-catcher on that occasion and Saga has to be taken very seriously in the colours of Her Majesty the Queen.

"I do think Coroebus as well might well be the main danger. We are looking towards newcomers for main dangers - Coroebus is related to a few nice sorts, the likes of Thunder Snow and also Itimal in the immediate family, but there's a chance that Coroebus might just need it or just come up a little bit short of Saga so maybe a shortie to end the day but hopefully on a high with Saga."
