Saturday's Wetherby racing tips: Improving Fransham can score

Planet Racing tipster Jonathan Doidge has trawled through the Wetherby card for Saturday January 15 and comes up with three cracking selections.

Here's a list of Wetherby's Saturday selections:

Fransham (14.12 Wetherby)

You Some Boy (13.39 Wetherby)

Glittering Love (15.23 Wetherby)

14.12 Wetherby - Fransham

The one-mile-seven-furlongs Book Corporate Hospitality At Wetherby Racecourse Handicap Chase (14:12) is an interesting contest which renews rivalries between Cornerstone Lad and our selection Fransham.

The Pam Sly-trained pick had almost four lengths to spare over Micky Hammond's runner when winning going away over course and distance on his penultimate start here in November.

A 3lb rise for that looked fair and he was still going well enough when unseating four out back here on December 27 in the Castleford Chase, a race won by Éclair D'Ainay. Cornerstone Lad was well beaten.

The last-named now has a 15lb pull with Fransham and is not taken on lightly. However, he can be inconsistent and, aside from that spill last time, the selection looks very much a potential improver, after just three starts over fences.

13.39 Wetherby - You Some Boy

A hat-trick could be in the offing for You Some Boy at Wetherby (13:39).

The Dylan Thomas gelding opened his account in some style at Newcastle last month and successfully stepped up to three miles to follow up over this course and distance less than three weeks later.

The Rebecca Menzies runner made all to defy an 8lb rise on his latest appearance and a further 4lb hike ahead of the Novices' Handicap Hurdle does not look insurmountable for a yard in excellent form.

15.23 Wetherby - Glittering Love

He may not the best that Nicky Richards has ever trained but a horse I've always liked is Glittering Love, who is fancied to win the Racing TV Anywhere Handicap Chase (15:23).

Nicky learned many things from his father, the great Gordon W Richards, I'm sure and one of them was his placement of horses.

He never wants to go to the well too often. That's paid dividends with many of his inmates over the years and Glittering Love is no exception.

He has won five of his 12 chases and been placed on four others, so he is a remarkably consistent performer.

As a 10-year-old he's probably not as good as he once was, but he loves to get his toe in and Wetherby's galloping three miles will suit.

I loved the way he scrapped out his latest win at Carlisle over three and a quarter miles, when he wore blinkers for the first time. He's gone up just 3lb for that and as the front pair were over five lengths clear, he may have enough in hand on the handicapper at the moment to enable him to follow up.
