Wetherby nap May 3: Third time lucky for Mountbatten

The Flat season is in full swing again and it’s to the level that Planet Sport’s Jonathan Doidge turns his attention for a Tuesday selection at Wetherby.

As a regular at Wetherby since childhood it's still a bit of a novelty to have Flat racing at the West Yorkshire track, but it's here to stay and hopefully so is my selection in the 17:40 race on Tuesday, May 3.

Mountbatten represents the excellent Archie Watson stable and has thus far been a bit unlucky. First past the post at Chelmsford on debut, he was subsequently disqualified due to a banned substance in his urine.

He then returned to the same C&D when a beaten favourite last month, just finding one too good. He'll face competition from one or two on his turf debut.

Perhaps most notable among those will be Ivan Furtado's Tickets but Mountbatten has looked the better of the pair so far and he can finally get off the mark here under Hollie Doyle, before going on to make an impact in handicap company.

So to recap, it's Mountbatten to score in the 17:40 at Wetherby on Tuesday.
