17:30 Kempton Park - Poet

Roger Varian looks to have found a good pilot in Jefferson Smith. The 26-year-old passed the 100-winner mark from the saddle at Lingfield last month and he can be successful on board Poet in the Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap (17:30) at Kempton.

The Frenchman, who ride for several seasons across the Channel, gets the leg up on this three-year-old for the first time, who is trying seven furlongs on this occasion.

He is 3lb higher than when scoring here (6f) last month, after which he met with defeat on Southwell's Tapeta. However, he is open to further progress and is not one to down tools on yet.

18.30 Kempton Park - Famille Rose

Varian can enjoy a double when Famille Rose takes her chance in the Unibet 3 Boosts A Day EBF Fillies' Handicap (18:30), a little later on the card.

The four-year-old filly scored over C&D in a novice event last November, before returning to handicap company last time out here (1m) and keeping on in eyecatching fashion for third.

The drop back to this trip should not inconvenience. She has also dropped 2lb since that win, so there is no doubt she is on a very competitive mark.

19.30 Kempton Park - Metal Man

The Rebecca Menzies team has been in super form of late, including a win for Metal Man at Lingfield last week.

We see no reason to desert him under a 5lb penalty in the Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap (19:30), that brings the curtain down on Wednesday's card.

The son of Australia proved himself over two miles that day, winning readily under Callum Shepherd, who retains the ride. He is a dual winner over hurdles already but was winning for the first time in this code. Now that things have begun to click, there could be more to come from the six-year-old, and it would be no surprise if he proved good enough to run up a sequence of successes.
